The effects of stress in the workplace are enormous: an increase in absenteeism and compensation claims, a reduction in performance and turnover, apathy from staff, complaints from clients and for some, serious mental and physical ill-health. Studies have linked stress to cancer, high blood pressure, blood clots, heart attacks, back pain, migraines, digestive disorders, weakening of the immune system, muscle deterioration and spousal abuse.

The facts speak for themselves*:

  • In the USA the 3 best selling drugs were developed to counter the consequences of stress
  • Stress costs the US economy $300 billion a year
  • Rates of absenteeism due to stress have tripled in the last 4 years
  • Stress affects performance and productivity in 9 out of 10 companies
  • Up to 75% of all diseases are stress related

The solution
Sustainable Stress Management

Moksha has produced a programme centred on self-management with the aim of unleashing potential.

What is it?

The programme is based on attention-enhancing awareness and, with a combination of ancient knowledge and modern scientific techniques, works to deliver a comprehensive solution that covers:

  • Stress management
  • Physical well-being
  • Mental fitness
  • Relaxation
  • Nutrition

The principles of the programme are:

  • Practical and tangible
  • Skills and Tools orientated
  • Ongoing – conducted over time to embed healthy habits
  • Participatory – discipline, commitment and hard work will be asked for
  • Outcome orientated – we are results driven, and these outcomes are in line with the company goals.

An overview of the standard programme:

  • Half-day session (AM or PM): 4hrs
  • Five 2-hour weekly sessions: 10hrs
  • Optional session on Nutrition and Diet

Topics covered:

  • The physiology of stress
  • Mind-Body connection
  • Breath: awareness and breathing techniques
  • Yoga: office and home
  • Meditation
  • Visualisation
  • Optional: Nutrition and Diet

Maintenance:

  • A monthly discussion, feedback, revisit and technique refinement: 1½ hrs

Packages can and will be customised according to client requirements.

Why does it work?

There is a distinction between being taught to do something rote and actually digesting and integrating a meaningful experience into one’s life over time. By concentrating on the latter and providing a programme for increased self-awareness, the programme leads to internalised and therefore sustained changes within the individual. The result? Happier staff, happier clients and enhanced company performance.

The outcomes:

The key to success is the active participation of the attendees during and after the programme with the following results:

  • Improved concentration
  • Enhanced creativity
  • Increased fitness
  • Decreased reaction to stressors
  • Healthier lifestyle behaviours

The people responsible for delivering the
programme are:

Chris Loker (B.Bus.Sc) has a broad training in yogic and breath techniques that is supplemented with western research and business knowledge.

Jim Harrington has done yoga for 15 years, completing his training in Sydney, Australia. He holds qualifications in remedial and sports therapies.
